Future Cities and Smart Cities

The UK Technology Strategy Board has launched a competition for a Future Cities Demonstrator.  The project will look at technology for integrating city systems as an enabler for economic development, enhancing quality of life and reductions to the environmental footprint.

CCD did an internal project last year looking at the future of cities and how it might impact on how the systems were integrated and controlled - see the slides below.

In the project we tried to look at some of the trends impacting on the city of the future in particular how changes in transport demand and working patterns might services become more localised.

One of the interesting challenges in the Future Cities project is how to integrate the data and how to use it - what is automated and what might require a human to interpret the data and make decisions.
